This week I tried hard (read 'negotiated with Bear') to get more pictures of Bear at work - he let me take a few, but only one I can post today. The others were with review items that I won't be posting until later. I have a fairly decent report on his work this time.
Noodle's behavior went much better this week, but I have to say, the boy's constant talking wears on me. I really, really just want some peace and quiet now and then. I know when he is grown and living on his own I will miss his little voice, but for the love of all things holy, the kid needs to stop constantly flapping his lips. I feel bad that I tune him out sometimes, but so often he is just talking to talk and not choosing his words purposefully. He drives all of us nuts at some point in the day. He makes Bear crazy in the morning because Bear isn't a morning person, and also Bear isn't a big talker. He drives me crazy during school lessons because he constantly interrupts to tell me something that is totally irrelevant to the topic at hand. He drives Daddy crazy at night who is just trying to get a little quiet relaxation in after a full day of hard labor. When big brother Super Duper is home he drives him crazy because they can't get through watching a movie without big brother having to pause a gazillion times. Seriously, I am going to slip him a mickey one of these days!! (Just kidding CPS, in case you are keeping tabs on us.)

All said and done, we had a pretty fun and productive week.
Bible
We continued reading in Exodus about Moses. Noodle is memorizing the Ten Plagues in addition to his regular Bible memory work. We also went back to Noah's Ark for a review and to do the Notebook page we forgot to do.
Math
If you missed an earlier post about our math, you can check it out here. This week Noodle did lessons from Teaching Textbooks 3, Abeka and the program we are currently reviewing. The wrap ups I ordered haven't come in yet. I am impatiently waiting!
Spelling
This week's words focused on the common spellings of the /ar/ and /er/ sounds. His Pre-test was pretty good! I always tell him if he gets 100 on the Pre-test he doesn't have to do the Friday Test. Poor guy, one of these days he will make it!
Literature and Misc
We started listening to Ginger Pye (Young Classic)
by Eleanor Estes. So far it is a sweet, wholesome story. I have had a hard time finding lesson ideas for this book, but I have a few things planned that I will be able to share in a Literature Unit post when we finish the book.
I try to introduce and reiterate literary terms each week. This week we read two library books about similes and metaphors.
Latin
This week Noodle completed the Weather Unit, which coincidentally has coincided with our science.
Grammar
We did about 6 pages from Rod and Staff Grammar. We also did some grammar that is part of a writing program we are reviewing. Topics include adjectives, subjects and predicates.
Additionally, Noodle completes analogy worksheets twice a week at Grandma's house while Bear and I are in Austin for classes.
Science
Continuing with our weather studies, Noodle completed two science experiments this week. He did one at Grandma's house with Grandpa J, while Bear and I were in Austin for classes. Experiment 1 was observing water in liquid, solid and gas forms. Experiment 2 was creating the Water Cycle in a Bowl.
History
The Civil War unit could go on and on I tell you. We are really enjoying learning about the war, Lincoln, the top Generals and the times.
You Wouldn't Want to Be a Civil War Soldier was the book we read this week. Noodle did a few more Veritas Press lesson centered on the Battle of Gettysburg.

In addition to the experiments we did reading from the Weather Encyclopedia we are using, and Noodle watched a video about the water cycle that we checked out from the library.

Health
For health this week Noodle did a worksheet on bones and he took a quiz.
Art
Unofficially, Noodle did art this week at home. Officially he did art at co-op. He drew this picture of a road in a desert (that just happened to have green trees) while we were listening to Ginger Pye.
| Yes, those are his dirty socks on his desk. |
Bear - High School
Bear continued working through Russian Lessons on Live Mocha and in a work book he likes.
He completed all his assignment for his co-op Chemistry class and on Friday they did labs for 3 hours.
I checked out the book, How to Read a Book, from the library and he read the section called "How to Read History."
Here is the essay called How to Mark a Book, that he had to read for his composition class.
For history he read some of A Patriot's History of the United States: From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror
Government this week covered the Electoral Process. Unfortunately, this is Bear's least favorite subject and he thinks I am weird for being so interested in it.

I know I say this all the time, but DANG your guys accomplish so much in a week! And Rick and I had a BIG laugh over Noodle's Pelvis word!! Funny!
Nice week! I should probably send DJ your way, then they both will have someone to talk too at least if they don't try to out talk each other. Believe me I know exactly what you are talking about.
We have definitely slacked in doing Song School Latin. We still love it!!
Thank you for sharing.
Another impressive week with LOTS of pictures! The Civil War units could last a whole year almost, it seems. Amber never really tired of it, we just had to move on. It was probably her favorite history unit ever. Looks like you are doing some interesting studies of the Civil War.
I am entirely impressed with the Russian lessons. Wow.
Tell Bear, from a "science gal" that studying poetry and literature truly enhance your enjoyment of life, and helps you understand literary references throughout your life. It also engages another part of your mind, that enables you think of solutions in science that otherwise might have eluded you. Honestly.
I second what Nicole said!!!
I also love coming to your blog because I get to see your nice schoolroom at the top. Jealous ;-)
What a full and fun week. I will have to look for some of those books. They look like lots of fun.
Blessings, Dawn
Love the science experiment! We're going to have to do that!
And the "pelvis" misspelling. I laughed so hard I cried! That is priceless! You have to save that worksheet page forever!
I have a talker, too! Sometimes I just have to put myself in a timeout. I am so impressed with how much you get done! I need some pointers!
What a great school week! You are really inspiring me. :-)
What Latin are you using? I like the format and simplicity of it.
Charlotte, it is Song School Latin from Classical Academic Press.
Looks like a great productive week. Loved seeing the science experiments.
