Some of My Favorite Homeschool Things

We probably all have things we use in our homeschool that we wouldn't want to be without.  These are just a few of my favorite homeschool things - some are gadgets, some are books.

This is a great little flip chart full of idioms.  Noodle and I have fun reading them, and he is picking up on when other people use them.  We got it new at Half Price Books and it has been a great addition to our school room.

I love, love, love this sharpener.  It suctions to the table top and it actually sharpens, unlike the numerous battery operated and manual sharpeners I have had, that have chewed up our pencils.

Book marks. I love book marks and if they are cute, I love them more.  We have a rule at our house about books - no dog ears. I dog eared books my entire life, but I realized if I dog eared the pages there wasn't a need for cute book marks!

Storage boxes from IKEA. This is actually a DVD box, but I use it to hold post it tablets, tape, paper clips, calculator, address label, staples, etc.  I have 4 of them total, filled with supplies that used to be all over the place.

Expo markers and erasers for the white board.  We love the white board and we like to use multiple colors.  The only color I don't like to use is black, because it doesn't clean up well. It streaks and smears, so I use pink, green, blue and sometimes red.

The Desk Apprentice from Staples. I have blogged about this before. It was $25 when I bought it. I love it. It holds all my teacher manuals and then some.

These magazine holders were a great find! They were in the dollar section at Target. I love, love, love the dollar section at Target. They were the perfect color scheme too! I keep all our Ranger Rick, Highlights, National Geographic Kids and Lego Club magazines in them.

Pencil Pouches. I think these are a little over a dollar at Walmart. I sort of have a pen and marker problem. I use these zip pouches to keep my favorites nearby.  The not so favorites are in large zip lock bags, in large IKEA storage boxes. They are nearby too, just in case!

IKEA Expedit book shelves. These are my favorite shelves ever! The cubbies are perfect for the magazine holders, the storage boxes and the books. The design keep shelf droop from happening too. Worth every dime!

What are some of your favorite items that make your homeschool days more pleasant?

Great ideas! I need to get some of those Ikea shelves to organize the kids room! I will say one thing that I never had until now and can't imagine doing without anymore is a magnetic Easel with dry erase. It's portable so I can set it up anywhere, and it's light so I can take it EVERYWHERE! :)

I learned some really smart tips here! I am going to HAVE to get one of those Desk Apprentices! I'm not the best at organizing our school area so this post it appreciated!

Blessings!

When we moved into this old house there was a red pencil sharpener in the basement. It works great and the kids run down there to sharpen when needed. I think I'm going to try to affix it upstairs somewhere, though. I wonder about it's history. It's in the oddest spot!

What is the title of the book of idioms? We adopted a 10-y-o bilingual (Spanish) child who has never heard of such things, especially our Texas sayin's. This would be a great way to introduce her to some. Thanks. Dollie*
