Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space - TOS Review

Bright Ideas Press is a Christian company that publishes homeschool christian curriculum for science, history and language arts.  One of the series they sell is called Christian Kids Explore Science.  As a member of the TOS Review Crew I received a free copy of Earth and Space.  Bright Ideas Press suggests the Earth and Space book for Grades 3-6.  It retails for $34.95.

I chose Earth and Space because we are currently studying this topic for science and I figured I could make it work with our current curriculum. I was right! I really like the simple, straightforward writing style, the activities and the worksheets included in the Appendix.

Click to see the Table of Contents.  Earth and Space Features six units, each to be completed in 6 weeks, to make it a full school year of 36 weeks (2 days a week).  Earth and Space covers the earth, lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and weather.  Click to see a Sample UnitBright Ideas Press also conveniently includes a Materials List for each unit, in a Word Doc, at their website.

Before we began any lessons, I prepped by putting post it notes on each of the lessons, to indicate which lessons we'd do along with our other curriculum.  Then I made photocopies of the Appendix items I would need, and I attached them to the appropriate lessons.

If you don't like to make photocopies, you can buy all the student handouts in an Activity Book available as a download for just $7.95 - regularly $12.95. I don't know how long it will be at the lower price.  This allows you to print with ease and not fuss with holding the binding flat on your copier, like I did.

I do have to say, because I was coordinating this with other curriculum I did not do the lessons in order.  We are not close to being done, but I like it so much that Noodle and I will continue using it with our other curriculum.

The only "negative" I find with this book is that it seems too simple for 5th or 6th grade.  Noodle is a 2nd grader and completed the lessons we've done so far with ease.  If I had an older child and bought this I would be disappointed at the lack of rigor.  That said, I really liked it overall!

I have used other items from Bright Ideas Press, like Mystery of History. I like that they are a
Christian company made up of homsechool families.  Homeschool moms know better than anyone else what homeschool moms are looking for! I love their motto, "Homeschool Moms are busy!"  Yes, we are! They also know we are usually on a budget, so I appreciate that their products are affordable  and of very good quality.

As a member of the TOS Crew, I received a free copy of Earth and Space, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and I received no other compensation.
